Jannes de Vries was a Dutch painter, living in Groningen. Through his career he was both a professor of Art at the Gymnasium Praedinius in Groningen, as well as an illustrator and painter. His work consist of oil paintings, watercolor paintings and copperplate etches. Themes of his work are the Groningen Hogeland (typical farmlands north of Groningen), Bible paintings as well as Mediterranean and North African landscapes.
